A Note From BC Cancer Foundation

We got in touch with BC Cancer Foundation to find out where the money raised from all of Ollie’s hard work will go:

The BC Cancer Foundation is the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer Agency and the largest funder of cancer research in British Columbia. Their focus is to fund and find solutions that are having a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in B.C. and beyond.

Funds raised from Cycle Challenge Canada will ensure that vital cancer research projects taking place at the BC Cancer Agency Vancouver Island Center result in clinical advancements for people most in need. One of the Foundation’s funding priorities at the BC Cancer Agency’s Deeley Research Centre (DRC) in Victoria is the immunotherapy research program led by Dr. Brad Nelson. After a decade of research, Dr. Nelson and his team are developing therapeutic vaccines that will boost the immune response to cancer, thereby helping to naturally eliminate cancer cells. The first clinical trials are scheduled to launch within two years. You can learn more about Dr. Nelson’s fascinating research here: http://vimeo.com/95451263

Community partner events like Cycle Challenge Canada play a crucial role in raising awareness and providing important funds that power cutting-edge research such as the immunotherapy research program. Ollie Blackmore will not only leave a legacy for cycling solo around Vancouver Island, but he will also make a meaningful impact on future treatment strategies for patients in this province through his support for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Please keep donations coming in so that we can support the amazing work done by BC Cancer Foundation and The Big C and help motivate Ollie in the last leg of his journey. http://bike.cx/
